Celebrating the Next Generation of Indian Classical Dance!

Sohamasmi Centre for Performing Arts is proud to present Yuva Mahotsav — a premier festival showcasing the depth, grace, and dynamism of young Indian classical dancers across Australia.

This vibrant one-day festival brings together emerging talent across six revered classical forms: Odissi, Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam, and Manipuri.

Across three curated showcases — Solo, Duet, and Trio performances — Yuva Mahotsav offers a dedicated platform for senior-level dancers with strong technical training to perform, connect, and shine under the mentorship of leading classical artists.

Festival date to be announced soon — stay tuned!

At Sohamasmi Centre for Performing Arts, we believe that an art form thrives only when its practitioners are valued, nurtured, and given the room to step into their full artistic voice. We present the inaugural Yuva Mahotsav 2026 not merely as a festival, but as a commitment to artistic integrity and community solidarity.

Across Australia, young dancers dedicate lifetimes to the rigor and devotion of Indian sacred classical dance. Yet the structural realities they navigate often fail to meet their dedication:

  • The Ensemble Ceiling: Gifted soloists frequently spend their entire careers in the background of school ensembles, with few pathways to emerge as recognized, autonomous professionals.

  • The "Pay-to-Perform" Culture: The proliferation of arrangements requiring artists to pay for their own stage time erodes artistic dignity and turns merit into a commercial transaction.

  • Overlooking Homegrown Talent: The routine practice of importing artists from abroad often comes at the expense of discovering and investing in the world-standard artists already living and practicing in our neighborhoods.

What is the way forward?

Yuva Mahotsav 2026 offers an alternative built on grassroots patronage. Staged without government grants or corporate underwriting, the festival relies purely on the direct relationship between artist and community. We invite you to be part of that ecosystem - through your presence in the theater, your patronage, and your voice.

Stand with us to honor the dedication of Australia’s homegrown classical dancers.
